Every year, The Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU) holds entrance exams. At three different studios, the film observes a demanding challenge the teachers are facing: how to find the chosen few in the crowds of applicants, the new talents who will be given opportunities to shape the art world in the coming years? How will the teachers stand the test themselves? The talent test eventually evolves to focus on art itself, and various questions emerge: What is the role of art in today’s confused world? Who do we make art for? Is it enough to do things as we feel them? Should we need to know when Tiepolo created his works? Is there anything left to scandalize us? A murder or a suicide? Bisexuality or pansexuality? Shit or blood? And what does all of this tell us about the nature and purpose of today’s art?
